In the Pays de la Loire, the economic fabric of specialised plant sectors is based on the action of many companies, such as SMEs, and a few cooperative groups and groups of national and international scope.
Several innovation structures are present in the regional territory with:

  • a Vegepolys competitiveness cluster, located in Angers.

  • Regional Innovation Platforms (PRI) including the Nantes Terre Atlantique high school (44) in legumerie and short circuits, Organic agriculture and sustainable peri-urban agriculture at the Nature high school in La Roche-sur-Yon (85) and PRIMABOR (44) in agricultural machinery.

In addition, the Campus du végétal in Angers brings together higher education and research in plants. It is the first French training centre dedicated to plants with 2,500 students and 25 training courses.
GEVES (Groupe d'études et de contrôle des variétés et des semences), an official body unique in France, constituted by INRA, the Ministry of Agriculture and GNIS and providing expertise on new plant varieties and seed quality analysis, is based in Beaucouzé (49). Iteipmai, a technical institute qualified by the Ministry of Agriculture, which carries out applied research for the aromatic, medicinal and perfume plant sectors (PPAM), is based in Chemillé (49). INRA (Institut national de la recherche agronomique) has two sites in Angers and Nantes.
